For over a century the Banque Michel Inchauspé has been part of the great History of Navarre.
It is not just a pure coincidence that BAMI embellishes its cheques with the Navarran coat of arms. This Province of the Basque Country boasts a great History, shaped by exceptional men.
The Kingdom of Navarre came into existence in 1134.
If today Navarre is now only a region formed by two Basque Country provinces, one in France and the other in Spain, it was for over five centuries, an extensive kingdom which channelled the Compostelle pilgrimage and which, above all, joined the local inhabitants in one political entity, the Franc immigrants, the Muslims and the prosperous Jewish communities. In 1512, during the religious wars, Navarre, a land of tolerance and commercial exchanges, was invaded by Ferdinand the Catholic.
Catherine and Jean d'Albret then left Pamplona in order to take refuge on the other side of the Pyrenean Mountains, at St. Jean Pied de Port, which so became the last capital for the Kings of Navarre.
BAMI remains deeply anchored in the region and the history that shaped it, respecting the values that have passed down through the centuries of tolerance, modernity, love and devotion to its land. |
